Fabric Art Journal Challenge Project

Kate Adams and I led this challenge project for our embroidery guild. Goals included: inspiring the members to learn new techniques and try them out!
The finished journal is bound using eyelets/cording so I can easily add additional pages.
For this journal page, I printed the images and journaling on special photo transfer paper using an ink jet printer.

Design Sketches

My first few sketches are done on graph paper. I used printed paper images of photos/writing; and incorporated colored paper to give me some ideas for how I might accent with different cotton fabrics. I experimented by preprinting several times to get approximate size and placement before printing final images on special photo transfer paper. Pam Sussman's book "Fabric Art Journals" was used for guidance and inspiration.

Table of Contents Page

This page has pockets for table of contents tags and an envelope pocket to hold hand written notes, letters &/or a few photographs.

Family Christmas Page

This page has a diagonal quilted background; chain stitch embroidery around the photo; and several charms attached.
